But I can’t help looking at it. £200 V6 FWD (I think) auto 51k and was ‘mint’ before the accident, and MOT records seem to show as such. I reckon they’ll shift on price too because it was advertised last month at £250 so now they want rid.

If, judging by the pictures, there’s little engine bay damage and no rear suspension damage, and the doors still open happily, then I’m only really looking at structural body and panels, right? It doesn’t even look like the airbags went off.

Yes I know it’s late. I can’t sleep.

Looks like a LOT of work for something that might actually have a bent chassis...

If *ANY* electrics don’t work, they will never work now. Those audi cabriolets had the most haphazard wiring and they get damaged easily. So couple that with the accident and I will bet money you will need to RE-WIRE a fair amount of the car.

Now if you needed parts? Oh hell yeah! But don’t go into it thinking you’re going to have a driving car soon. If it was like a ford taurus? Or a honda accord? Yes, that would just be cosmetic damage. THe audi is not a tauurs or an accord.

I know there has to be more behind the reason why no one else has picked tbis car up yet, but I refuse to consider the reality of the situation.

It doesn’t need to be on the road for a while, but with that said, I had no idea the 80's cabs had such poor wiring, and wiring is absolutely not my forté.

You can get one complete and in good condition for less than £1000, so it makes no sense at all to buy a damaged one (unless you enjoy the frustrations of rebuilding old Audis). It will never be worth any money, and will be a real pain to fix up.

This is basically an Audi 80 right? From what I gathered they were pretty good cars. There is a mint one in my street and its beautiful.

A grand for a V6 cabriolet 80? I would genuinely consider that, do you have a link?

I know :(

But it’s cheap. And I need a project car for when I finish the Land Rover.

It is, but I have no idea if they’re any good. Slight nostalgia creeps in because my mum used to have one, albeit not the cabrio or V6(!)

Just search on ebay for “Audi Cabriolet” (It wasn’t officially referred to as an 80, although some of the listings will use that name). There are a few on there just now. Alternatively, you can find them in the usual classifieds like Gumtree, etc.

I bought mine for £1200 privately, but the interior had been retrimmed so it was nice and fresh inside.

How big or ambitious do you want your project to be?

Anything to do with a Cabriolet sounds very interesting. But maybe not with this one in particular. As M Vidal says, the structure may be bent. Not good.

I’ve read about people putting quattro drivetrains in these. It involves deseaming (or rather, drilling the spotwelds of) the rear floorpan of the Cabriolet and replacing it with one from an 80/90 quattro Coupé (I think) plus, of course, rear suspension etc. Audi themselves never did it, but I gather there are now a few privately-built ones.

I think it would be a cool beast indeed. Time to look for a cheapo but not so iffy Audi as this one?
